Research shows that coastal management project success can be improved by assessing public knowledge or considering public review and feedback. There is increasing agreement that decision-making at the local level is driven by social influence at the individual level. This project seeks to assess individual literacy and perception concerning tropical cyclones, king tides, and dune management strategies that impact South Carolina coastal dune systems. Results will indicate the current literacy across the coastal zone. The community-level understanding gleaned from this research can assist public and private decision-makers with future dune and coastal management decisions.
