About Lola Renauer
Lola is working with the coastal environmental quality program team to implement an interdisciplinary approach to investigate CEC drivers and identify solutions in the Southeast, including a competitive research competition that focuses on the influence of climate change on contaminants of emerging concern. She is developing a Network Analysis and ArcGIS StoryMap with the results of the information gathered through these efforts. She also supports other extension specialists with program coordination, outreach, and engagement efforts.
Lola is currently a second-year doctoral candidate and teaching assistant in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of South Carolina’s Arnold School of Public Health in Columbia, S.C. Lola received her B.S. degree in Marine Science from Coastal Carolina University and her M.P.S. degree in Marine Conservation from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. For the last nine years, her research has included photo-identification of common bottlenose dolphins (T. truncatus) for distribution and occurrence, as well as assessing natural and anthropogenic impacts on this species. Her dissertation research is focusing on utilizing photo-identification and other health data to identify skin lesion prevalence and other health implications to dolphins and humans in regard to contaminants and climate change.
