Extension Assistant

Charleston, South Carolina

About the Position

The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium is seeking a part-time assistant for the Extension Program to be based at its office in Charleston, South Carolina. The Extension Assistant will work directly with the Consortium Assistant Director for Development and Extension, as well as the Extension Program Specialists on tasks related to extension activities including workshops, meetings, programs, and public communication. If the applicant is a student, there is an opportunity to develop a thesis or internship project as part of the work.

The South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, a state agency established to manage the Sea Grant College program for South Carolina and based in Charleston, S.C., generates and provides science-based information on issues and opportunities to improve the social and economic well-being of coastal residents while ensuring the optimal use and conservation of marine and coastal natural resources.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate the S.C. Coastal Information Network (SCCIN)
  • Coordinate Calling the Coast Home real estate agent education programs with three coastal Realtor® Associations
  • Assist in the generation of communications materials such as fact sheets, flyers, and social media posts
  • Assist in event management including registration, planning, marketing, note taking, webinar support, etc.
  • Help research, plan, and implement extension activities
  • Conduct small projects independently

Qualifications

The chosen assistant will have a well-rounded environmental studies background, experience or a keen interest in extension and outreach programs, strong interpersonal and written communication skills, an ability to coordinate groups and teams of people, superior organizational capability, and a willingness to assist in any task.

Position Type

Part-Time, Temporary, $20/hour

Work Hours

20-25 hours per week. Some infrequent travel throughout the state is necessary; a valid driver’s license is required.
