Fish Printing Kits Loaner Program
About the Fish Printing Kits
The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium offers use of their Freshwater and Saltwater Fish Printing Kits free-of-charge to any S.C. K-12, nonformal, and homeschool educator.
The Freshwater and Saltwater Fish Printing Kits provide educators with a lesson guide on fish adaptations and the rubber fish molds necessary to create gyotaku-inspired fish prints with their students. The following is included in each kit:
Saltwater Fish Printing Kit
Mold Species Included:
- 1 Flounder
- 1 Grouper
- 1 Scallop Shell
- 1 Sea Star
- 2 Skates
- 1 Skipjack Tuna
Materials Included:
- 3 Paint Trays
- 5 Paint Brushes
- 3 Acrylic Paint Colors
- Standard-Aligned Lesson on Fish Anatomy
- Instructions for Creating the Prints
Freshwater Fish Printing Kit:
Mold Species Included:
- 1 American Alligator
- 1 Bluegill
- 1 Bullfrog
- 1 Trout
Materials Included:
- 3 Paint Trays
- 5 Paint Brushes
- 3 Acrylic Paint Colors
- Standard-Aligned Lesson on Fish Anatomy
- Instructions for Creating the Prints
Additional Supplies for the Freshwater or Saltwater Fish Printing Kits
Please note that you will need to provide the following supplies for the fish printing activity.:
- Additional Acrylic Paint Colors (2-3 colors will be provided)
- Additional Paint Brushes (5 paint brushes are provided)
- Paper, Fabric, or other surface to apply the prints (Tip: Cut-up paper grocery bags make a great surface to print on!)
Requesting the Freshwater or Saltwater Fish Printing Kits
While there is no cost to borrow the fish printing kits, it is the responsibility of the person who borrows it to arrange for pick-up and delivery of the model from the Consortium office in Charleston, S.C, to ensure that all of the parts are returned undamaged, and that the fish molds have been thoroughly cleaned and dried.
