Alligators as Bioindicators for Contaminants
As plastics and other aquatic and marine debris become more present in our ecosystems, alligators’ diets increasingly include items off their natural menu. Either directly consumed or ingested indirectly via prey, plastics and the coatings on plastic materials can be digested by living organisms, breaking down into microplastics and other contaminants of emerging concern (CECs).
Water Level Sensor Installed in Bluffton
A water level sensor was recently installed at Calhoun Street Public Dock on the May River in Bluffton, South Carolina, to aid in building resilience against future floods.
Taking Stock of South Carolina’s Stormwater Ponds
To identify where stormwater ponds are located for effective management, the Consortium funded an update to the inventory of stormwater ponds in the eight coastal counties of South Carolina.
