About Elle Pestorius
Elle is assisting the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium’s Education Program by providing support for marine science and STEM education efforts, including the From Seeds to Shoreline® program, marine debris outreach, and educator professional development.
Elle is currently earning her M.S. in Marine Biology from the College of Charleston (CofC). Her thesis research focuses on a longitudinal comparison study of the biomass and diversity of a macroalgal community in Waikīkī, Hawai‘i. Through her research, she has collaborated with community science programs such as OPIHI (Our Project in Hawai‘i’s Intertidal) with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and other outreach initiatives focused on the conservation of Hawai‘i’s natural resources. Elle has also served as a teaching assistant for introductory biology, fish biology, and oceanography courses for undergraduates at CofC. While working on her B.S. in marine biology with a minor in environmental and sustainability studies from CofC, Elle completed a Research Experience for Undergraduates program where she studied the ecophysiology of native and invasive macroalgal species within Charleston, South Carolina.
