Career Connections: Sailing the High Seas
November 8, 2023 from 5:30 – 8:30 pm
USS Yorktown (Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum)
Deadline to Register: October 30, 2023
Formal and nonformal educators are invited to join the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum aboard the USS Yorktown as we celebrate National STEM Day and kick off our 8th Educator Science Café Series, Career Connections: Sailing the High Seas. From ocean exploration to shipping and national security, the marine economy provides over two million jobs annually — this event will feature guest speakers and industry experts who will share their research and resources with participants.
Guest speakers include Dr. Leslie Sautter (College of Charleston) and industry guests such as the College of Charleston BEAMS (Benthic and Acoustic Mapping and Survey) Program, Naval Information Warfare Center, and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (USA) Inc. Participants will receive take-home resources for your classroom focused on ocean careers with the objective of building job awareness and the skills needed to enter the maritime workforce.
The event is free-of-charge and light appetizers will be served. Registration is required by October 30, 2023. Questions can be sent to Hannah Giddens or E.V. Bell.
