The Consortium recently hosted a workshop for marinas, boatyards, and yacht clubs interested in becoming a South Carolina Clean Marina, a voluntary certification program that awards distinction for marinas helping to create a cleaner marine environment. The South Carolina Clean Marina program recognizes marinas across the state for exemplifying commitment to the protection and improvement of local water quality.
Representatives from ten marinas were present at the workshop, including both marinas seeking recertification of their current Clean Marina status and those looking to join the program. The workshop presented marinas with the steps required to earn certification, how to prepare for site inspections, and how to meet all checklist criteria.
There are currently more than twenty Clean Marinas in South Carolina, spanning coastal waterways and farther inland. Marinas interested in exploring certification and boaters looking for a Clean Marina can visit the program website or contact April Turner, coastal communities program specialist at 843-953-2073.
