From February 1, 2023, through January 31, 2024, the Consortium and its member institutions documented 86 impacts and accomplishments, plus 50 products and tools, within five focus areas: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems, Sustainable Coastal Development and Economy, Weather and Climate Resilience, Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Scientific Literacy and Workforce Development.
The Consortium achieved about $21,712,308 in economic benefits, including jobs retained (39) in fisheries and aquaculture sectors; students supported through research projects, fellowships, and internships (64); training delivered to communities (39 in hazard resilience alone); and technical support provided to industry and education programs.
Education efforts engaged about 15,681 P-12 students and 1,530 P-12 formal and nonformal educators.
Across all S.C. Sea Grant research programs, projects, and partnerships, more than 4,000 volunteer hours were logged in the 2023 fiscal year devoted to maintenance, cleanup, and resiliency efforts.
