Beach Sweep/River Sweep
The Beach Sweep/River Sweep, originally scheduled for September 19, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The cleanup will be rescheduled when it is safe to do so. Thank you for your interest in keeping our coast clean!
What is Beach Sweep/River Sweep?
Beach Sweep/River Sweep is South Carolina’s largest one-day volunteer waterway cleanup event. Every 3rd Saturday in September since 1988, thousands of South Carolinians clear beaches, rivers, lakes, marshes, and swamps of aquatic debris.
The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium leads the beach cleanup efforts, while SCDNR leads the inland cleanups . The Sweep takes place in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy .
