Andrew McMains
Marine Fisheries Extension Specialist
Andrew works with key fisheries stakeholders, including industry, resource management, and academia to extend science-based information to sustain marine economies and resources. Working across coastal South Carolina and the Southeast region, Andrew collaborates with partners to develop needs-based and applied marine fisheries projects. He contributes to research and workforce initiatives motivated by community needs and provides hands-on operational and technical support for fisheries constituents.
Andrew earned a B.S. in environmental science from the University of Montana Western and is finalizing his Ph.D. in fisheries ecology at the East Carolina University Coastal Studies Institute. His graduate work focuses on using acoustic techniques to assess the impacts of anthropogenic change on fish habitat use. Before joining the Consortium, Andrew worked with the UNC Institute of Marine Sciences and the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries.
