S.C. Sea Grant Consortium

2006-2008 Research Projects

Every two years, the Consortium asks researchers to submit proposals for the funding provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the National Sea Grant College Program.

Each project undergoes a rigorous peer review. The selected projects support critical research goals for our state and region.

Coastal Ocean Processes

Research Vision: Research focuses on process dominating the coastal ocean in the South Atlantic Bight, with emphasis on oceanography, pollution, and fisheries dynamics.

Ecosystem Dynamics

Research Vision: The research goal is to enhance the availability and quality of marine, estuarine, and freshwater resources.

Coastal Natural Hazards

Research Vision: Researchers study the nature of hazards to help public and private sectors learn how to plan for them and lessen their impact.

Marine Aquaculture and Fisheries

Research Vision: Aquaculture, ecotourism, and marine recreation are just a few of the issues that Sea Grant studies to create opportunities compatible with long-term conservation of coastal resources.

Emerging Technologies

Research Vision: Researchers concentrate on developing marine-based techniques and products for commercial and industrial use. They also explore low-cost solutions to coastal resource problems.

Coastal Communities and Economics

Research Vision: Research and activities assist coastal communities and businesses manage growth and sustainable economic development.
