Dr. Carolyn Ruppel

Dr. Carolyn Ruppel of the Georgia Institute of Technology invited Margaret Olsen, Education Specialist for COSEE-SE, on her 2003 Windows to the Deep Expedition. The overarching scientific goal of the expedition was exploration of the Blake Ridge and Carolina Rise for new methane seeps and cold seep communities using an integrated biological, chemical, and geophysical approach. During the submersible cruise, Margaret acted as a liason for NOAA’s Ocean Explorer program by answering online “Ask A Scientist” questions from students, teachers and the general public. A description of Margaret’s activities and the expedition log can be viewed online.
