SAB Research Oceanographers and fisheries scientists have organized multi-agency efforts to the address the question of how global climate change may affect the abundance and production of animals in the region of the South Atlantic Bight. The South Carolina DNR serves as the main research organization in fisheries life history and behavior for the South Atlantic Bight.
Oceanography: Current research is being conducted by the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography in cross-shelf exchange, storm effects, plankton biology, bio-optical variability, and atmospheric nutrient transport. Benthic ecology studies pertaining to organisms found in the South Atlantic Bight are currently being conducted through CORMPS and the UNCW Benthic Ecology Lab.
Charleston Bump: This website Sponsored by NOAA has a fantastic description of the Charleston Bump, and the wide variety of research being conducted in the unique waters off the South Carolina Coast. Also, check out the Charleston Bump information on the Project Oceanica site. • Sea
