Research Interests

The role of translating ocean sciences to the public and to educators has defined my career through almost three decades of working in NC Sea Grant and SC Sea Grant marine education. My goal is to bring the science of the coast and ocean world and the latest research into the grasp of teachers. I have been particularly interested in experiential educational strategies used in professional development of educators. Through my association with SEACOOS (South East Atlantic Coastal Ocean Observing System), I have seen the need to develop better strategies to transfer exciting technologies and relevant monitoring system information through the web to educators. Developing better access and higher attraction to the ocean sciences for underrepresented and underserved populations is not only a major objective of COSEE SE, but also holds great interest to me. In all of my endeavors, the importance of partnerships and friendships in education is reconfirmed.
