Fall 2008 Plate Tectonics Workshop
Exploring Plate Tectonics: a Hands-On Approach
November 6th, 8th and 12th

Join COSEE SouthEast and PROJECT OCEANICA to investigate plate tectonics and learn about how the plates move to form the ocean basins that exist today! Hands-on activities are aligned with state standards for physical, earth and life sciences. This program will be geared toward 5th grade, 8th grade, and high school science educators. Explore a creative way to teach salt marsh ecology through the use of art! Author Kevin Kurtz, nature photographer, Karen Beshears, and visual arts teacher, Marie Nichols, will teach creative methods to capture science concepts for use in the classroom. Check out the information below on the upcoming “Photographs, Poems, Pencils and Pluff Mud and get your application in today! Deadline to apply is August 15th.

The 2008 Coastal Legacy Workshop, “Downhill Trends: Tying Tidal Creeks to Estuaries” invites teachers to travel to Charleston, South Carolina where they will investigate the link between tidal creeks and estuaries and learn about impacts to their health. Concepts of watersheds, water quality, estuarine ecology and population growth/development will be studied through a series of science based lectures, hands-on activities and field experiences. Teachers will finish the program innovative materials, resources and activities for use in their classrooms.
