Impervious cover for a given area can be estimated based on satellite derived land cover, as well as analysis of lot data.

This GIS image shows impervious cover across the study area. Green areas indicate low levels of imperviousness that are most protective of water quality. Yellow areas indicate moderate to high levels of imperviousness, where one would expect to see water quality begin to be measurably impacted. Red areas are those that unavoidably degrade water quality.

By looking at these levels of impervious cover, the overall impact of land use on Georgetown County’s water resources can be visualized.
